Christmas is one of my favourite things in the whole world, and one of the reasons for my festive cheer is the plethora of PC games that ooze onto the scene, ready for all my tasty time off. So, in honour of the dark nights, cold winds and sleety rain here are five games you need to add to your Christmas stocking this year…
Assassin’s Creed 3
For the uninitiated, this series is a stunning open-world adventure game that has you using advanced technology to go back in time and solve a series of mysteries. It is also a bit confusing. See you have Assassin’s Creed, Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, and now the third instalment, Assassin’s Creed 3. It is not Assassin’s Creed 6, in case you were bewildered, but it is stupendous.
Hitman Absolution
Another great series this, really addictive and well designed, it is guaranteed to drag you into a surreal world of madness and death and leave you grinning. If I find this in my stocking this Christmas I will be delighted.
Far Cry 3
This series has had so much critical acclaim that it practically carries critics on its back to the sound of roaring applause. Is the third instalment as good and dribble-worthy as the previous two? Apparently so, the critics love this one too, and you don’t need to play the first two games to understand the third, which is a bonus…
Dishonored
A game that’s not about killing for survival, but rather about thinking for an innovative experience, Dishonored has already been lurking on shelves for a few months. If you haven’t played it yet, then get it loaded and sort out those darn dogs.
Black Mesa
This is an absolute must for all Half-Life fans (of which I am most definitely one). Fans have recreated the original game with improved graphics, physics and environmental effects as well as a slightly adjusted storyline. It is utterly beautiful and, get this, totally free…
Mrs Mario
Mrs.Mario is a freelance journalist who loves to write about anything and everything.
